we saw this Euptychia sp, morphotype 4 (see https://www.sangay.eu/en/fiche-papillon/019-Satyridae/003-Satyrinae/001-Euptychiini/021-Hermeuptychia/049-pimpla%2C+cucullina%2C+maimoune+Group+overview/_), in the Southern half of the country, at Palmas Anchas on the Southern limit of Sangay NP, and on the Loja-Zamora road ; and we only got two specimens and one photograph, which means this species is probably quite rare in Ecuador.
this morphotype looks just like the maimoune illustrated on BoA.
