we feel that, today, the taxonomy and the borders of Genus Perisama are fluctuating and our knowledge of the geographic distribution sketchy and disputable.

the taxonomy and the borders of the Genus are out of our field, but we can see, for instance, that :
- Orophilas (which were first made Cybdelis, then Myscelia before becoming Orophila in 1886) became Perisama in 1916, then again Orophila for Attal & Crosson du Cormier and, recently, Perisama again.
- subspecies descriptions, and passages from species to subspecies and vice versa, are very often poorly substantiated and lead to reversals and also confusions as for Perisama lebasii koenigi in ButterfliesofAmerica (august 2023).

but for the geographic distribution of Perisamas in Ecuador we can come forward with hard facts which often contradict the available data (mostly Attal & Crosson du Cormier 1996, and also d’Abrera 1987 and ButterfliesofAmerica).

these results are detailed on each species fact sheet.
