Heraclides thoas belongs to a group of similar looking species, the foodplant of which is some Citrus sp.


it flies from the Southern United States down to Argentina with several subspecies. in Ecuador the subspecies which flies on the Eastern slopes of the Andes is Heraclides thoas cinyras, common and widespread between 300 and 1000 meters (Bollino & Onore 2001).


when the sun shines males would fly and puddle a lot; females are more discreet and scarce.


present on the Eastern limits of the Park.
