Dismorphia zaela is a rather variable species which flies from Costa Rica to Ecuador (d’Abrera 1981).

this butterfly, collected at el Corral, Rio Negro, at 1400 meters, is a female of form (or subspecies) abilene which is said to fly in the Baeza area.

we later saw another female at Pablo Sexto, and, recently, a male in the rio Paute valley, very far from Baeza.
