wingspan : 62/75 mm

M. messenoides deceptus flies from Ecuador Oriente to Bolivia. it is a common species, seen near Sucúa, 1000m, and near Puyo and Palora, 900m.

we leave "deceptus" deliberately as a "messenoides" subspecies.

in Ecuador we found butterflies that look just like M. messenoides deceptus but with some yellow on the FW; and they fly with M. messenoides deceptus.

it should be noted that, in Ecuador, these butterflies with a yellow patch on the FW are quite rare, when they're not so rare in Peru, and when they are the rule in Bolivia ; couldn't they be the same butterfly ?
