Male

wingspan : 78 mm

Heliconius numata is a butterfly from the Amazon Basin, and it enjoys an incredible number of subspecies - thirty in Holzinger’s book !

Heliconius numata lenaeus flies in the Southern part of Ecuador Oriente ; seen on the Sardinayacu trail, at Pablo Sexto and near Palora, 700/1350 m.

in all those places H. n. lenaeus flies together with H. n. bicoloratus, and we only saw one possible "cross-breed"; it is not obvious that they be ssp of the same species ?
