wingspan : male 23/25, female 25/27 mm
quite a few Wahydra ekka were flying at 2800/3000 m above Baños in november, scarce as it is supposed to be.
this species had a hard time with entomologists:
- first, in 1955 Evans named it Moeris ekka although it does not look at all like any Moeris which incidentally are known for flying at low to medium elevations,
- then, in 1991, Steinhauser called the specimen collected at 3800 m by R. de Lafebre Wahydra obscura, without noticing it already had a name, Moeris ekka!
it will make sense to name this butterfly Wahydra ekka ?
one may note that Wahydra ekka is probably the only Ecuadorean Wahydra that can be identified with no fear of error.
