Male

Female

wingspan : 26/33 mm

Caria castalia seems to be an Amazonian species (d'Abrera 1994).

we first saw one male, at rio Shankaime, 900 m, then, years later, more males near Puyo and Sucúa, these males are quite variable ; but we never saw a female.

it is obvious that the present taxonomic position for species like mantinea, lampeto, castalia, plutargus et al is quite unsatisfactory.
